ART POSITIVE
(De)gradation
03 April – 06 May 2026
Kapana Gallery, Plovdiv

This year’s theme, (De)gradation, focuses on processes of transition: between development and decay, accumulation and loss, stability and disruption.
The exhibition brings together artistic projects that explore these states on a personal, social, and visual level. At its core are transformations—visible and invisible, gradual or abrupt—both in society and within art itself.
In the context of a time marked by instability and shifting meanings, the presented works provoke, question, and open new perspectives. Here, (de)gradation is not viewed solely as decline, but also as a possibility for the emergence of new forms, structures, and meanings.

LICHT, MEHR LICHT

ataIn 2025, the theme of the "Week" is "LIGHT, MORE LIGHT" – a famous phrase that quite naturally occupies the minds of visual artists and people of knowledge. The words are attributed to the German philosopher and writer Wolfgang Goethe, and while it may not be certain that he uttered them on his deathbed, it is certain that during his active years he did say: “Where there is much light, there is much shadow.” And this obvious truth is too ambiguous to be ignored or taken literally. The human being in society and in relation to nature – a world of contrasts and oppositions, of creation and destruction, a world of fragile balance. On a symbolic level, light is the lifeline thrown from creation to humanity, and this light illuminates different ideal and idealistic forms of reaction and existence. This essential problematic lies at the heart of the organizers’ concept for the Week of Contemporary Art – 2025. Artists either follow the light that shapes forms, or use light sources to create new spaces, placing the viewer in a different and unexpected environment that provokes not only the senses but also brings thoughts back to concrete ideas and questions that find no place in everyday life. Today art synthesizes contemporary forms and modern conceptuality not only to create aesthetic experience, but to explore and reflect.
